Westside RCD 2009 Annual Plan – Land restoration - upland habitat

GOAL

2009 ACTIVITY

DESIRED OUTCOME

Continue land restoration on Bureau of Reclamation plots farmed by farm operator Jones.

Continued irrigation of nursery areas on Manning, Bell property and others for native habitat materials development.

Store and prepare for additional planting of seed materials from native plant nursery areas. Sustain existing areas for model of transferrable program. Demonstrate ability of native plant areas to crowd weed pests and harbor beneficial insects in areas next to irrigated cropland.

Develop analysis of additional available parcels from list provided by Westlands Water District.

Visit, evaluate and rank parcels for restoration capacity. Develop 2009 restoration grant application with HT Harvey and Associates Ecological Consultants for parcels with a potential high level of success.

Develop priority restoration sites along potential terrestrial plant and animal growth/migration pathways that coincide with riparian corridors such as the Arroyo Pasajero stream complex and Panoche-Silver Creek. Analyze synergy and biological diversity of corridor-related parcels to isolated parcels.
